A strong LinkedIn profile is more effective than applying through applicant tracking systems (ATS) or applicant trashing systems. Having a good profile can lead to recruiters reaching out to you directly, even if you are not actively searching for a job.

Here are seven key tips for creating a strong LinkedIn profile:

  1. Your Billboard: This refers to your profile picture, headline, and cover photo. These are the first things people see when they come across your profile, so they should be attention-grabbing and professional. Your profile picture should be a clear headshot where you are looking directly at the camera. Your headline should be clear and concise, and it should communicate your value proposition or branding statement. Your cover photo can be thematic, but it should be professional and visually appealing.
  2. Summary: The summary section is the second most important part of your profile after your billboard. It’s a chance to tell your story and control the narrative about you. You can use the summary to highlight your skills and experience, as well as your personality.Feel free to include fun facts about yourself to make your profile more engaging.
  3. Vanity URL: A vanity URL is a custom URL for your LinkedIn profile. It makes your profile easier to find and share.
  4. Skills: Make sure to list your skills on your profile and get endorsements from your connections. This will help your profile show up in search results for relevant keywords.
  5. Features: The features section of your profile allows you to showcase your accomplishments, such as articles you’ve written, presentations you’ve given, or awards you’ve won.
  6. Activity: Be active on LinkedIn by sharing or posting articles, commenting on other people’s posts, and joining groups. This will help you get noticed by recruiters and potential employers.
  7. Tracking: Set up searches on LinkedIn to track companies and jobs that you are interested in. This will help you stay up-to-date on new opportunities.
