When I worked in search, I represented someone who was rejected for a C-level position with one of the well-known global banks because he referred to men and women as “guys and gals.” He was trying to use comparable slang for women as he did for men. The problem with referring to both genders as “guys” is that you are risking offending someone you’re speaking with. I think it is better to use the term, “people” or “folks” or another type of non-gender-specific slang that might not offend someone.
