Freelance Writers: Surviving AI – MiddleMe

The growth of Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has sparked a debate about those who support the technology and those who question its impacts. It is excellent for businesses as it can improve the efficiency of their work and even save money, reducing the need to get employees to do specific tasks that can be automated. However, this very benefit has many wary of AI, especially freelance writers who believe AI will threaten their job.

But, should they be worried? Here’s a short article about how freelance writers can adapt and survive despite the presence of AI:

Accept That AI Is Here To Stay

Whether we like it or not, AI will be here for a long time. However, while it will continue improving, it is an imperfect technology. For instance, AI may produce content with factual inaccuracies or lack a human touch, which can affect the quality of the content. This will make people double-guess whether they should trust the business because of this content or go somewhere else. But what will they do if more businesses apply AI-generated content?

Given this problem, writers will be required to create quality content that they can trust. As a freelancer, you can take this opportunity to stand out and explore how you can make eye-catching, memorable and informative content. Your personal touch is invaluable and once people see your work, you will get more opportunities to show your craft.

Specialisation is Key

Some may say getting a specialisation or niche as a freelance writer is unimportant. However, with the onset of AI, it is now crucial for writers to develop a niche because AI can now make generalised content, which many freelance writers make in a shorter time. Since AI makes this generalised content now, it will be hard for generalist writers to find job opportunities.

With a specialisation, you won’t meet any competition with AI since the technology is not there yet when it comes to the precision of their content.

If you want to pick a niche, make sure it is something you are familiar with and passionate about, as this can help make your content more personal. You can also look into niches that are sub-genres of your specialisation, such as technical writing, creative writing, or industry-specific writing, as this may help you find clients who want writers in these deeper niches.

Prepare For The Interview

Whether you are competing with AI or other freelance writers, thorough preparation for each interview can help you increase your value as a potential employee and stay competitive.

However, aside from knowing your skills and experience, it is best that you also learn how to build rapport with your potential clients. Clients want employees they can trust and real people, which is why employees who reach out are a good sign. AI cannot replicate this feeling even if programmed to project certain emotions.

Know The Ins And Outs Of Repurposing Content

Content repurposing is the process of reusing existing content to create new content. Contrary to popular belief, this is a great way to keep your writing fresh and help update your knowledge regarding the topics you write about.

Contrary to popular belief, content repurposing is a great way to keep your writing fresh and help update your knowledge regarding the topics you write about.

When offering content repurposing, see the available avenues and highlight the information you want to reaffirm to call readers into action. Once you have the content made and created new articles out of it, you can now offer these articles to your clients. When clients see that you can do more than one form of content, they will see you as a one-stop shop.

Ghostwriting

You can go into the world of ghostwriting to survive AI’s influence as a freelance writer.

Ghostwriting entails writing content for someone else and posting it under their name. This is a standard practice in the business industry, especially for blog posts and thought leadership. In this case, you can reach your client, the CEO or manager, list their ideas, and transform them into an article they can publish under their name.

Many brands would pay a lot for ghostwriters, especially if they can write in different types of content.

While AI can create different types of content, it will take time and the right prompts to get a semblance of what the person wants to write about. Ghostwriting eliminates this problem and gets the job done.

Change Doesn’t Have to Be Bad

Even if AI can challenge your career as a freelance writer, it does not mean you should see its appearance as all bad. Use the chance to see how you can take advantage of the situation and take action. Once you cement yourself as a reliable and capable writer, you will not need to worry about AI affecting your chances of getting a job.
