Final interview preparation is a lot like final exam preparation in college: you want to make sure you know everything you’re going to be tested on, that you’ve covered all the material, and that you’re as confident as possible going into the final exam, right? It’s also a good idea to keep preparing well past the actual interview date, because there’s a good chance you will have other interviews to prepare for as well.
One of the most common regrets among people who are preparing for a second or third interview is that they didn’t prepare harder for their first one. They think that because they landed a second interview, or third interview, or fourth interview, that it’s going to be a piece of cake. They assume that they have gotten past the first interview and that the hardest part is behind them.
They believe they’ll be able to answer questions without doing any additional research or additional review. They don’t realize that the company is nowhere near hiring them, that they are still competing with others for the same jobs and that they still have to overcome lingering concerns the firm has about whether they can be trusted to do the job.
When you’re preparing for your second or later round interview, there’s a lot to remember when you’re preparing. But the most important thing is to stay focused on the goals that you want to achieve with this interview. You should have a general idea of where you want to go and what you want to accomplish before you walk into the interview. The interview is not the time to discover that you’re not as qualified for the position as you thought., you might find yourself getting a little nervous. Maybe you’re even starting to panic a little bit. This is completely normal. The key is to keep a level head and know that you’re doing everything you can to get the job. Your preparation will speak for itself. The more you can practice effective interview strategies and stay calm under pressure, the better you’ll do.
Remember, you preparation for your second, third, or fourth interview will be expressed in the interview, so don’t throw it all away because you’re feeling a little bit nervous.
Your practice in advance, your research and your review of what happened on previous interviews with this firm can help you anticipate the rough edges that they may dig into and allow you to stand up to any query they throw at you.
