Devotional: It Was A Huge Challenge

You’re sitting there, worried it’s not gonna work.

Trying different things, but nothing seems to ‘catch’.

Others are doing amazing things but what they’re doing just doesn’t seem to fit your personality. Fit who you are. You’re not judging or anything, but it’s just not for you. Your gut says no.

And so you wonder, what’s the next step?

What can you do to get back on the horse?

You’ve been knocked down before, but something just seems “off”.

Like, this isn’t even the right HORSE you’re supposed to be on!!!

Confused and not sure which way to go, you start trying different things.

There’s failure and success. Intertwined. One failure. One success.

Could this REALLY be the right path? Yeah, there’s success, but there’s also a lot of flops.

Is THIS how the path you’re supposed to be on really LOOKS?

I had put it off long enough.

I had used so many excuses.

Doing videos is not the SAME as connecting in person. You can’t replace the in-person connection with videos.

Videos are lame. They’re just for people who have millions of dollars and a whole crew to shoot them.

Every excuse in the book, I had it.

I’m an introvert. Introverts don’t do videos.

It’s way outta my comfort zone. I can’t do THAT!

Someone online did a 30-day video series where she got out of her comfort zone and started doing videos once a day for 30 days.

And as I watched her, so alive and happy, she said that we shouldn’t be afraid to do videos. That it’ll be okay.

Her words rang in my ears for months, as I ran from them.

But eventually, enough was enough. I was done running away and four months ago, I started doing videos.

Gosh they were terrible. My white background looked gray and gloomy on camera.

I had no clue what I was doing; what I was supposed to even say?

One of my friends told me to create a video scene. A real one. Instead of trying to do a white background or make a fake vinyl something or other.

So I did.

I started creating a space *I* wanted to hang out in. Of course, I just KNEW it had to be pink and teal. Hello, Littlest Pet Shop here. Those are my roots. Selling LPS on ebay full-time in order to stay home with my babies.

Pink and teal mean SO much to me and those colors have carried over into my blog.

But a pink and teal room?!

You have GOT to be kidding right?! Those colors don’t mix in home design!

Well, I was determined to mix them. I knew what I wanted. I didn’t know if it would work or not, honestly, I had my doubts.

I took one step in front of the other and just kept going. One day at a time. One item at a time. One design element at a time.

First, choosing a paint color. Would pink look like a nursery? 😂 What color should the ceiling be? White or pink? That was a very LONG debate!!!

What kind of setting should it be? Bookcases like an office or a couch living a living room? Shouldn’t I do a gray wall with white trim? That’s modern, right?

Questions swirled my mind and I just made one decision after another.

Last night, I FINALLY finished my video scene. A cozy corner upstairs. A nook, if you will. A perfectly PINK AND TEAL nook. 😉

It’s done. It’s really done.

It was a huge challenge, but I got through it and IT….LOOKS…GORGEOUS!!!!!!!

I figured out the lighting. That was THE hardest of all so I wanted to make sure my lights are in the picture to show you how to set it up, because seriously, that took the LONGEST time! Drove me IN-SANE! 😊

My favorite part of the scene, you ask?

The peony curtain tieback holders.

All the flower curtain tie-back holders looked really CHEAP online. So, I made my own!

I bought a couple peony flowers from Pier 1 and cut off the stems. I sewed them to the metal curtain tieback holder and placed a thick foam sticky back I had on hand underneath so the flower wouldn’t flop down. No one knows it but me. Well…and now you. 😁

I MADE it work.

I designed a video scene I can be proud of. 💯

A lot of people have asked me, how I went from being an introvert, running away from the camera to now, I’m comfortable on camera (still not perfect, I still mess up, but comfortable).

After thinking about it, really the answer is the video scene.

As I was creating an ENVIRONMENT that *I* was comfortable in, I stopped fretting about the camera and just kinda melt into the scene. The scene MAKES me comfortable. It MAKES me feel proud. I think it’s the SPACE that really helped me, along with your encouragement that I’m doing good. 💕

*Update: since then, I’ve created a whole new scene now, which is way better!

It turned out even better than the first room and looks so pretty! In case you’re wondering if it cost me a fortune to create that room, it didn’t! I’ll cover that at the end of the post!

If you’re sitting there today, whatever you are facing and just not sure if it’ll work out, if you’re worried about your finances or whether or not you’re doing the right thing, on the right path, the answer is…

You don’t HAVE to know the outcome.

I didn’t KNOW if pink and teal would work. But I wanted something that truly reflected ME. And after that I got really into gray/white and that worked out well too!

Just take ONE step, put ONE foot in front of the other, and when you turn around in four months from now, tears, you might just surprise yourself and realize, it DID work!

The video scene MEANS something to me. When I look at it, I see my hard work. I see doubts squashed. I see encouragement from you. Let that scene, remind YOU that your doubts can be squashed too!

High-quality decorations on the cheap!

Here’s how I have that room now (I bought a fireplace to hang on the wall behind the couch):

The couch, if you want to buy it new is from Z Gallerie.

It’s pretty spendy for sure, but I scored it and the two matching chairs on Facebook Marketplace. I only paid $100 for the couch and $50 for each chair, so $200 total!

Here’s what brands everything else is. I scored a lot of the items on Facebook Marketplace. Definitely look there to save a massive amount of money! ❤️ Search brands like Z Gallerie, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, and CB2 to get the best quality items at a fraction of the retail cost!! You can get a lot of amazing deals to save your family money when decorating and spend God’s money wisely. 🥰
