Devotional: Don’t Let it Knock You Down

Devotional: Don't Let it Knock You Down

Things don’t always go as you’d expect them to.

No matter how hard you try, no matter how hard you plan, no matter what you do, sometimes, things just go bad real quick and there’s nothing you can do about it.

It wasn’t what you expected. You were disappointed. It wasn’t supposed to go like that. It was supposed to be different. That should’ve never happened to you.

Things go wrong all the time and we can’t really control that. But what we CAN control is our attitude toward things going wrong.

Our attitude is something we have full power over!

Think about this…

There are four ways people deal with problems:

  1. They play the blame game – it’s someone else’s fault
  2. They are stuck in denial – pretend it’s not happening because they can’t process the data
  3. They quit – it’s about giving up
  4. They accept it and adapt quickly – they think quickly on their feet

We can throw our hands up in the air and give up, play the blame game, or even be in denial, OR, we can accept it quickly and seek out a solution.

The best leaders know that things won’t always happen according to plan and instead of running from their problems, they continually look for solutions.

Because at the end of the day, whether it’s in business or at home with our family’s, we are problem solvers.

Our little one is crying because they’ve had a bad day and our heart goes out to them full of compassion. It’s time to pull out a solution.

Things kept coming up all week long and you didn’t have time to prepare the sermon for church as much as you needed to. You need a solution.

Date night dinner for your spouse gets a little….uhm….overcooked. It’s time to think of a solution.

You’re working and the power goes out. You didn’t save your entire 700-word email. It’s time to think of a solution.

Instead of focusing on the problem itself, we, as leaders, need to focus on solutions and be problem solvers. When we start doing that, we become less frazzled and stressed out, and we give ourselves more control and more grace.

At the end of the day, all you can do is your best. You can’t build Rome in a day. You can’t change the whole world in a week. All you can do is what you can do, giving your all and trying your absolute best to live a life on fire for Christ and serve those around you.

Be honest, be transparent, be open to change.

Don’t let your problems derail you.

I remember going through a really tough season in my life where everything just really seemed to be going wrong. I cried out to God, “WHY are you allowing all this to happen to me?!” I was frustrated, angry, hurt, confused.

Immediately, I was blaming Him. I realized my attitude toward God was wrong and repented of my sin. Then I prayed that He would help me to respond better to problems.

Later that day 😆 (He didn’t even wait a full day!) another problem came up and my first reaction was, “Okay. This is happening. It’s not fun. It stinks, but I know God has a plan. This is for my good somehow (Romans 8:28).”

After a few minutes, I started crying and going back to the “WHY are you letting all this happen to me, Lord?”

I couldn’t STAY in that mindset that this was for my best, but you know what, that’s okay. I made progress, and the next time a problem came up, I did even better!

We may not get things down right away, but we do our best. We keep trying, keep getting back up, we continue to grow, we adapt, we change. We’re a little better today than yesterday and that’s sanctification. We must work at our attitudes. They don’t just come naturally to be all sweet and innocent. We have to work hard to get them right.

👉 So, if you’re feeling frazzled, overworked, tired, and drained, just know that things happen to ALL of us, no one is exempt, but it’s how we deal with the problem that can potentially make us a rock star.

Don’t lose hope.

Don’t give up.

Don’t quit.

Keep trying. Romans 5:5.

Whatever wall you may be facing today, whatever hurdle you’re trying to jump, just know that there IS a solution.

You just have to find it.

Start thinking outside the box. How can you overcome this challenge?

With God’s grace, you can find a solution and quickly and get back to doing what you do best…being YOU! 💎❤️🎉🤩
