This part of the No BS Career Advice was difficult to write and I know you know it is true.
The job market for LinkedIn users has been horrible for several years.
Beginning with Meta’s layoffs in early November 2022, firms have been reducing headcount for people who are on LinkedIn–white collar professionals is what they were called in times past. Now, let’s think of them as college-educated people who work on a computer. This isn’t because of AI. ChatGPT wasn’t even announced until late November 2022.
I won’t blame the federal government for the problem even though there is a case to be made for it. I think the post-Covid boom and the explosive growth some firms experienced after lockouts coupled with high inflation and interest rates to combat it created stagflation. Firms just ran out of momentum and reduced headcount.
Here’s the next part–LinkedIn reported that most job searches take over 6 months.
Are you prepared for that financially and mentally?
If you’re like most people, you aren’t.
Finding a job is hard under good conditions and these are not good conditions. I think there are reasons to think that there are some politicians who know it and are ready to act but that takes time.
Capital conservation and grinding to find a job are in order.
