I had an interview scheduled at 10 am, yet waited nearly 3 hours for the interviewer. They didn’t apologize, and explained that the interviewer was too busy. I decided I had had enough waiting and asked them to reschedule. Is asking them to reschedule acceptable?
Following Up After an Interview

Someone wrote to me about being kept waiting for three hours for an interviewer. They did not apologize. I have to assume the firm didn’t apologize, explaining that the interviewer was too busy. And they decided enough was enough, and they asked to reschedule, and want to know if this was okay.
You know, I’ll simply respond by saying, “If you arrived three hours late for an interview, would they even talk to you again?” Of course not. You know, they would expect an apology, probably not talk to you, and it begs the question what they think about people who work in this kind of job that they keep people waiting for three hours. Yes, it’s acceptable to ask to reschedule. I would never have waited for three hours, nor should you; that’s abusive.
And the fact that the interviewer is busy, they couldn’t pop out for two seconds to say, “I’m very sorry for keeping you waiting. Why don’t you have some coffee? I think we can meet again at…” And you know, they would give you a time that could work for them rather than keep you sitting there like you have nothing better to do than, um, than wait for them.
I wouldn’t bother with this firm, but I respect the fact that some people need work, and they’re willing to put up with abusive behavior on firms. But just understand, if you have multiple offers and it’s a choice between this one and one that treats you properly, well, I’d be reluctant to say yes to this firm for the simple reason that I’d be working for someone who didn’t value me enough to give me the courtesy to explain that they were, had a problem that they were dealing with and were running a light.
