Are you making the crucial mistake of only updating your resume when you’re actively looking for a job? This #short reveals why that’s a huge error and what you should be doing instead to stay ahead of the curve and be ready for your next opportunity.

Another Stupid Resume Mistake

If you’re like most people, you make the mistake of only updating your resume when you’re looking for a job. I don’t care whether you’re junior or senior; that’s the habit most people have. And that is a mistake. Why? Because you forget things. You don’t include things that would have been really helpful for you in marketing yourself to your next employer.

Here’s what I want you to do going forward: every month, okay, at most every three months, sit down with yourself and do an update of what you accomplished during that period, what your successes were, what you learned during this period of time, what you started working on, recommendations you received, anything that’s new that’s of any sort of significance, how much money you helped the firm make during this period of time, how much you helped it save, how much you got better, what courses you took during this period of time.

So that this way, it’s saved for you. So when it comes time to write that resume, maybe you get a call from a search firm that says, “Hey, I got a great opportunity for you,” it’s not hard to update. All you have to do is pull out your doc and very simply plug in what’s going to be necessary to create the impression to get you the interview.

So set reminders on your phone to do these updates every month, at most every three months, but it’s really better if you do it every month. I have a lot more great free content at jobsearch.com/community. Go to the site, go exploring, download the free stuff, become an insider. So this way, I can help you on this job search. You’ll get access to a lot more, I’m adding a lot more regularly, and this way, I can also coach you and answer your questions.
