A recent LinkedIn Workforce Confidence survey reveals that job searches are taking longer than many might expect. More than half (53%) of active job seekers in the U.S. have been searching for at least six months, while over a third (34%) have been looking for a year or more.
However, not all job hunters face prolonged searches. About 5% of respondents had been job hunting for just a week when surveyed, and 16% had been looking for roughly a month. Meanwhile, 17% had been searching for three months, and 19% had reached the six-month mark.
The survey, conducted between mid-December and mid-January, includes a mix of job seekers—both unemployed individuals and those employed part- or full-time who are exploring new opportunities.
These findings highlight the reality of today’s job market: while some find opportunities quickly, many job seekers need to prepare for a search that could last several months or longer.
