30 Bible Verses About Witnessing

When I was a new believer, I errantly thought that I’d have to go around telling literally EVERYONE I met about Christ.

I was SO scared, to say the least! I was new. I didn’t know what to say, or what to do. What if I was asked a question I didn’t know the answer to? I’d harm the gospel and look stupid, all at the same time.

The problem with that thinking is two-fold.

First, I was thinking way too highly of myself, as if one person’s salvation rested on my shoulders alone and if I messed it up, they’d never be saved.

Wow, talk about an ego factory!

God doesn’t need us to witness to anyone! He doesn’t need us at all (He is independent). He can witness or save that person in any way He wants to, but sometimes He CHOOSES us to partner with Him, to complete His will. He does this for our benefit and theirs.

Second, while there is a time and place for directly speaking about God to someone, most of the Christian experience is found witnessing to others without a word.

It reminds me of the Bible verse about winning our husbands over without a word (1 Peter 3:1). We do this by our actions, by being different from the world, by loving God with our whole heart and letting others see that love.

It’s about our daily testimony, our walk with Jesus Christ, and our example on display to a broken and hurting world.

Right now, the world seems so compassionless. So, as a believer in Christ, we can do something as simple as be compassionate toward someone and that is our witness to them that there is a God and He cares not only about me, but about you as well.

Going about our daily business with Christ on our minds and other people in our hearts is the perfect recipe for being a great witness for God to others, and it’s SO simple!!

Let’s see what else the Bible tells us about witnessing in these 30 Bible verses about witnessing.

30 Bible Verses About Witnessing

1) Matthew 5:16

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

2) 1 Peter 3:15

“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,”

3) Matthew 28:19-20

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

4) Mark 16:17-20

“And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover. So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.”

5) Acts 1:8

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

6) Isaiah 43:10

“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.”

7) Mark 16:15-16

“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

8) Luke 24:46-49

“And said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

9) Colossians 4:2-6

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison — that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.”

13) Romans 15:13

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

14) Galatians 6:9

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

15) 2 Timothy 1:8-9

“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,”

16) Acts 2:37-38

“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

17) Romans 10:14-15

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
