On an especially cranky day for my kids or when I’m feeling especially moody, I love to diffuse essential oils to help bring me (and my family) back to center.

Top 5 Summer Essential Oils Diffuser Blends (and how they affect your mood)
The first one up in this top 5 fav’s list is…
Mint Ice Cream
Who DOESN’T love mint ice cream? Seriously. It’s been a favorite of mine since childhood. I remember going to Thrify’s and getting an ice cream cone with 2 scoops. One was always mint and chip and one was always butter pecan. So delicious. Now you can smell mint ice cream whenever you want and it has my favorite of all time oil in it, Spearmint!
Essential oil recipe:
- 4 drops of Spearmint
- 3 drops of Cardamom
- 1 drop of Vanilla
How it affects your mood:
Spearmint helps promote self confidence. It’s especially great for you when you are feeling timid or you’re holding back your opinions and thoughts with others. It brings on a boldness and clarity to your mood so that you’re able to articulate your thoughts better.
Cardamom is really great for times when you feel like you can’t deal with life. It helps you process the deep emotions you are feeling of frustration and anger and helps you be more self-controlled. When you feel like you have a chip on your shoulder and you’re ready to explode at anyone and everything in your path, this is the perfect go-to oil.

Summer Campfire
Ahhh, the memories of a summer campfire! Singing, laughing, joking, having fun, making smores…this will bring you right back to those days!
Essential oil recipe:
- 3 drops of Cedarwood
- 3 drops of Patchouli
- 1 drop of Wild Orange
How it affects your mood:
Cedarwood is something you can smell when you are feeling rather antisocial or like you just wanna be alone. It helps when you’re feeling lonely by building bonds with other people and showing you that you’re not alone.
Patchouli helps you be more grounded. It also is great for those struggling with body shame or judging their own bodies. It helps you accept yourself more and be more at peace with yourself.
Wild Orange is perfect for when you are feeling overwhelmed. If you’re feeling nervous or overworked, Wild Orange can help you relax and not feel so stressed and crazy.

Clean Green
What I love about summer is the crispness in the air. The clean, fresh air, the green grasses, flowers growing. It’s a beautiful time of year to enjoy the sun.
Essential oil recipe:
- 3 drops of Lemongrass
- 2 drops of Eucalyptus
- 1 drop of Lavender
How it affects your mood:
Lemongrass is something that is great for removing toxic, negative energy. It just helps clean the air and freshen and brighten it. If you are holding onto the past, Lemongrass can be especially helpful in assisting you to let go of it and feel more free.
Eucalyptus helps you when you are feeling like you are despairing of life. When it’s that drudgery to get through the day, no zeal, no motivation, just defeated. That’s a good time to smell Eucalyptus.
Lavender is great when you are having feelings of fearing rejection. It helps you release the tension and encourages you to be more honest in your communication so you can feel more free.

Clean Laundry
Mmmm….smelling clean laundry can be really relaxing and give you a sense of peace. Maybe it’s just me, but I really like this blend! 🙂
Essential oil recipe:
- 3 drops of Siberian Fir
- 3 drops of Cypress
- 2 drops of Wintergreen
How it affects your mood:
Siberian Fir helps you if you are feeling sad or grieving. It helps ease sensitive situations and rough transitions by encouraging you to find meaning in each stage and circumstance of your life. God can use your negative experiences and rough spots for good.
Cypress helps those who are feeling especially controlling, willful, and have perfectionism tendencies. It helps you let go and be more free.
Wintergreen helps you be more submissive. This is something that I diffuse or have my kids smell when they are especially disobedient (or when I am in a mood to disobey God or rebel from Him). It really helps you understand and let go in the situation, while still remaining your rights (meaning, it won’t make you do anything bad and it won’t make you submit to evil).

Island Paradise
Every summer, I love to take a trip to the ocean. It’s such a paradise. Never been to an island, but I can smell as if I am there with this blend!!!
Essential oil recipe:
- 3 drops of Ylang Ylang
- 3 drops of Grapefruit
- 3 drops of Sandalwood
- 1 drop of Lime
How it affects your mood:
Ylang Ylang will help you feel more playful and free, innocent and joyful. It instills in you a child-like grace and is a great stress reliever.
Grapefruit is something that people smell (or eat) when they are dieting because it helps with body shame and curbs the obsession with food. It helps you accept your body and feel more nourished.
Sandalwood will help if you are feeling empty inside or if you are over-thinking your situation. It aids getting you to a more passive state of mind so you can process things going on without over-thinking about them. It helps you be more humble.
Lime helps when you are feeling discouraged or have a loss of will to live. If you are grieving or just not wanting to continue, it’ll help snap you right out of it. Suddenly, you’ll be able to cope with life and realize that loss and grieving is a part of life for everyone. You’re not alone!
