5 Deadly Mistakes You’re Making in Your Christian Life

Living the Christian life is tough. True dat!

There are tons of pitfalls everywhere (for the saved AND the non-saved), but we must fight to continue in God’s army, being exactly who He wants us to be, asking for help when we need it, and continually finding out where are blindspots are.

Here are five blind spots to check immediately to see if any of these deadly mistakes you’re making in your Christian life are present.

5 Deadly Mistakes You’re Making in Your Christian Life

Are you doing any of these…

1) You think you’re Christian but you’re really not

All my life, I thought I was saved. Went to church all my life, got baptized when I was 8, and then again in my 20s when I gave my life to God (again), but after my ex-husband abandoned us and the kids and I ended up homeless, I realized, I was NOT saved.

I went on a journey to figure out WHY I wasn’t. I accepted God (twice before), said all the right things, believed in Him, and even got baptized, how was I NOT saved?

Are you absolutely SURE you’re saved? Have you felt the Holy Spirit inside of you, do something counterintuitive to what you, as a person, would normally do? Do other people confirm that you’re saved because of the godly lifestyle you live?

If there’s ANY doubt in your mind at all, you’re either one of two things: not saved or a very, very new believer.

Why do I say that?

Because when you’re saved, God has a way of getting your full attention (at any cost), and you’ll KNOW you’re saved or not. Believe me. You’ll know and you will not have ANY doubts.

It’s worth it to be certain. We’re talking about eternity here! If you’d like to check, here’s a great post to read: How to Know If You’re REALLY Saved

2) You don’t focus enough on Heaven

If you’re not laser-focused on the goal, you’ll never reach it. Paul talks about running the race with endurance (Hebrews 12:1), but he is assuming we understand there’s a goal in sight. The end goal is Heaven, it’s the payoff for all your hard work. It’s getting to be with Jesus for all eternity, spending time with Him, serving Him for His purposes. Heaven is the end of this life, what do you want Heaven to be like for you?

Here’s what I think about it…

I don’t know about you, but there are billions of people, over many, many generations going to be in Heaven (and are now). With all those people, how can *I* get close to God? There WILL be ranks in Heaven, people that God tells them to carry out His purposes to and they tell the masses. I don’t want to be a nameless face in the crowd, and yes God loves us all, but I want to be as close to God daily as I possibly can. That means, here on earth, I have to work SO SO hard to be someone He can use because our characters never die. Our spirit never dies.

While we will be perfect in Heaven, all those SKILLS that I learned here on earth carry over to Heaven. If I’m good at managing and delegating here on Earth, then God can use me to manage and delegate in Heaven. He can use those things both on Earth and in Heaven. So I want to be as good as I possibly can to be nearest to my Father when I get to Heaven and when I get there, to be used mightily for Him. To be someone He trusts with great things, whatever those things are.

What is your heart? Are you just feeling like you want to get through life unhinged and get to the glory that awaits you? If you are, you’re wasting the opportunity to be the best Christian you can be, here on earth. You’re settling but with your own spirit. Never settle for average!!! In anything you do.

3) You don’t make the time to spend with Jesus

I read a book years ago that said we should wake up and the first thing we do is to give God our day and spend at least 15-30 minutes with Him each and every day. I balked at it. I fully admit to you.

Years later, what am I telling you to do? 😆

Wake up, and spend the first fruits of your day with God!

Since doing this, I’ve found myself so much more HAPPIER, joyful, having more peace, and like my day is aligned with Him and His purposes. I ask Him, just about every day, “What do you want me to focus on today?” Having a good game plan, makes me know exactly what to do that day and it’s been an amazing journey since starting this practice. I encourage everyone to do it!!! ❤️

4) You think no one’s paying attention to you

You errantly think that everyone is so busy and self-absorbed with their own stuff that they don’t have time to possibly watch you. Your life is not worthy of being watched, so you think they don’t and you can do whatever you want, get away with a little shady business here and there.

Those who are saved and those who are NOT saved…ARE watching!!! They watch, they see, they know, and they silently judge you for it. The Bible tells us they are watching (Hebrews 12:11). Notice it says, “Since we are…” We are being watched by others, both by people on earth and by angels (1 Peter 1:12).

5) You think, “Someone else will do it”

In your mind, you’re constantly thinking someone else will witness…someone else will serve…someone else will help them. Someone else will do it. Maybe God brought this thing to your attention because He wants YOU to do it and by NOT doing it, you’re shirking your responsibility before God.

Not obeying God is a dangerous and slippery slope. If you’re there, be very careful. Because one day, YOU’LL need help, and no one will help you. They’ll all think, “Someone else will do it”, but no one ever does!

Do any of these fit you? If so, hurry, run to change them in your heart QUICK! Remember that God is quick to forgive and loves to hear from you!! 🙏
