Unfortunately, there are many types of abuse and it’s not always men who do the hitting. Some women are abusing their husband also. Some family members are abusing family members (children to parents, parents to children, siblings to siblings). Some strangers abuse you, maybe it’s online (think: trolls). Sometimes it’ll be someone you meet in passing.
Sometimes the abuse is physical, sometimes it’s emotional abuse, and sometimes, it’s even spiritual abuse. You get attacked because you love the Lord, being you’re out there shining His light, doing what you know God wants you to do.
There’s abuse everywhere. Jesus experienced abuse on earth too, in His ministry. The Bible talks about people wanting to kill Him in many different places.
When you have something that is good, holy, genuinely pure, whether it is your light or your godly attitude, or maybe it’s your heart, whatever you have good in you, there are some in the world who WILL try to destroy you.
Why?
You’re making them look bad. You’re making them FEEL bad. They know they are sinning. They know they aren’t doing right, but they don’t want to change their behavior, so rather than changing, the next best thing to do is to get rid of the light. Crush it. And they’ll try to do that in any way they can.
My best advice is to get out of that situation as fast as you can. Do not allow people, whether family or anyone else to mistreat you. God does not intend to do us harm and He doesn’t like it when His children are being abused in ANY way!
Keep a record of the abuse, write it all down with dates and times if you are able. Get out of the situation as fast as you can, and have trust friends to talk to so that you know it’s NOT YOUR fault!!!
Remember always that you are treasured and loved by Christ. He loves you so much He died for you and He wants to help you in your pain. He cares. He sees. He will provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13- here it’s talking about temptation, but in context, abuse IS temptation because you are tempted to NOT be a light for God, you are tempted to shut down, or tempted to strike back in vengeance so this applies). In the meantime, get away from the situation. It’s never okay to abuse someone, no matter how it’s done.
